Little Things {Bloom}

I love walking into a room full of flowers. The smells, the colours, the textures, the whole 'vibe' is just better. Especially when that room is in a maternity ward. Floral aromas combined with the sweet smells of a newborn baby. Perfection.

There is something so emotionally and metaphorically fitting about giving flowers to a new Mother.
Sunday the 24th of July was a very emotional day here. Periods of waiting by the phone intertwined with bouts of jumping on the couch.

But by 6:30pm that night... all those hours of waiting were forgotten, as we made our way into the hospital to meet our baby niece.

Violet Kate, we are so very thrilled to finally meet you - and cannot wait to watch you bloom x x

Little Things {Simplicity}

Because there are times when no-one wants to 'play' photos with Mummy, we will always have fresh flowers inside.
Simple, pretty, and still.

And smelling that little bit sweeter as a gift from my sweet husband x

Little Things {Bath Time}

There's nothing like bath time in this house to keep the kids happy. They love the new bubble bath I got them, and I love that they are sitting still long enough for me to take a few pictures.
Win win really.

Little Things {Twelve Sleeps}

Twelve sleeps. Twelve sleeps until my sister becomes a Mum.

Twelve. Sleeps.
To a child, it's an eternity. To a dog, it's months. To an excited Aunty... it's unbearable.
So close. So exciting. So scary.

The rain here has been constant. All our grand plans for 'final' maternity photos were squashed, and instead - we were forced to stay indoors. Indoors amongst the renovations. I didn't care that I had to max out my ISO, or that I was too sore to lay down for most of the shots, but I knew I would care if we didn't make the effort.

We have plans to take more next weekend. But just in case, for now, we have these.

Little Things {Missed Focus}

M has been taking a big interest in using my camera lately. He is always looking around and pointing out 'beautiful' sunrises and 'cute' things his sister is doing that would 'make a good picture'. He even asks me to pull over so he can take photos of whatever catches his eye.
And of course I can't say no! I love it.
I don't love being in photos however. It's not so much fun being on the other end of the camera. So when he proudly showed me this picture I was secretly happy for the missed focus. He sure did find some nice light too :)

Little Things {Baby Shower}

37 weeks. Already!! It's gone so fast, and I am so excited to think that in two short weeks, my little sister will be a Mum.... And that of course means I will be an AUNTY!!!
The names have finally been chosen, the obligatory last minute renovations are underway (in their case it's a new bathroom and laundry), and all the important gear is set up and good to go.
We held the shower at Mum and Dad's and it went off without a hitch. Good food, great company, lots of games, and some very generous gifts.
Ruffle Cake, Recipe by Martha Stewart

The only thing missing was a certain special friend of both of ours who is travelling in the US at the moment... She has always been there for both of us, and I know she will be there for many, many important events to come.

The excitement for everyone is building, and I am loving watching M and A talk to their aunties belly, anxious to meet what will be their first cousin.

For now though, we just wait. And get ready to shower the little one with love...
